More than 70 % of our Nepalese people live from farming, fishing and day labor jobs. Many are spending their entire lives in remote area villages. When in these communities a person goes missing or a child is lost there is no search operation and no police is coming to the poor people's assistance. In times of natural disaster foreign aid concentrates in the mayor urban areas only and no one comes to the rescue of villagers. Average income of these people is often lesser than one US Dollar per day.  A policeman in Nepal earns just enough money to keep himself and his family afloat with a salary which does not allow him to travel long distances or do volunteer search and rescue with local people. This is the grave difference with his colleague in a western country. Costs of living in Europe are far higher than in Nepal but in the eyes of a Nepali an European makes more than 100,000 Rupees a month which is over 1000 Euro average at today's exchange rate.

A Nepali police constable makes only 98 Euro per month! Who can expect a search and rescue party from these poor men? When a child in Europe is lost an entire machinery starts moving in a very well organized approach. When foreign mountaineers meet with an avalanche in Nepal, big equipment and big money moves into our country. No one dead or alive is left behind, no matter the costs. This is a good thing of course but when a child in Nepal is lost, it is not even mentioned in the local press and considered bad karma. Nepalese porters or day laborers get lost in the unforgiving nature of our mountains all the time! It’s karma again and people just shrug it off in resignation.

We want to make a difference! We realize that this does not come forward in a big bulk from a large donor organization. These only deal with governments. Private initiatives in Nepal are always ignored. It’s the simple people with small money that comes to the rescue of our locals so far. We can do this if we have many small supporters. Every small amount counts. How nice would it be to have a patron who takes care of the running costs of our academy.  A private donor company who is social minded and gives back to the people!

With the kind help of only a few sponsors so far we are accomplishing the following:

1. Training and keeping standby effective Nepalese nation wide disaster response units, urban search and rescue teams, logistic standby mobile medical aid teams like medical first response teams, search & rescue dog teams for missing people in Nepal. For individuals gone missing as well, as for search & rescue of victims due to natural and man made disasters. Inside Nepal and in it’s neighboring friendly countries, if these request us officially for assistance.

2. Breeding and training of suitable search and rescue dogs of international known valuable pedigree and standards.

3. Establishing standby mobile disaster response units for times of need.

4. Establishing and maintaining breeding  and training kennels for high quality search & rescue dogs (SAR dogs). With modern internationally recognized standards, rules and regulations and with the support and help of professional SAR dog trainers and examiners from Nepal and abroad.

5. Teaching international standard search & rescue plus disaster response science subjects and provide professional certificates for Nepalese (and neighboring countries disaster response and aid-workers) and issuing their professional certificates.

6. Membership criteria for institutions, NGO's and Government Organizations at local and international level of participation will be announced in due course of time.

The official registered name of our Not for Profit Organization is "Search and Rescue Dog Handler's Academy of Nepal". Our brand name is SARDOGS NEPAL.

The purpose of our academy is to be a living and growing scientifically institution that functions as a South Asian private disaster mitigation, preparedness and response organization; allowing membership participation of public organizations like NGO's and GO's as well, as concerned citizens with similar aims in Nepal and neighboring countries. Working out a plan to educate remote communities to act in tandem with our program for a first response.

Our Articles of Association can be ordered as e-mail copy on request by any interested organization or authority. Find our official license and registration number at the bottom of this article. Please support our cause!

OUR FORMER ACADEMY IN SHYAULI BAZAAR  / KARAPU, WARD NO.9 LAMJUNG DISTRICT
Since 2019, our basecamp shifted to Gharepatan 17, Pokhara

INTRODUCTION

Profound political changes took place in Nepal after its Royal House was forced to abdicate in spring 2008.
The newly declared Federal Republic went into a dramatic state of transition and still has not settled into
 peaceful normality until today.

The drafting of the new constitution turned out to be a seemingly endless struggle between the many old
and new political parties and the more than 60 different ethnic and cultural interest groups that are
living inside the boundaries of our colorful country.

Meanwhile our staff and board of  the former Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad Nepal (HRDSN)
was struggling to survive 2 years of world economic crisis right after Nepal's historical leap from
an old fashion feudal Kingdom into what hopefully must emerge to be a modern democratic society.

Nepal's  transition period had also a dramatic impact on our  21 years old Organization.
A deeply divided sponsor community  was suddenly emerging from the financial fiasco that was caused
by the fast decline of foreign friends and donors during these confusing years in Nepal and
the world wide grim economic scenario.

Our Staff unanimously decided to make an entirely new start  according to International Standards;
registering
the Search and Rescue Handler's Academy of Nepal - SARDOGS NEPAL
as a Private Not for Profit Enterprise in the Department of Industry in Kathmandu.
With this registration Himalaya Rescue Dog Squad Nepal's 21 years old history has come to an end yet all
of her objectives have been preserved by this new beginning.
